Red Deer are essentially a small elk & their hides are very porous, yielding velvet soft leather. This hide in particular has a hole sewn closed, and a few small spots that have started to open up near the neck. Nonetheless, plenty of material for artisans as this hide is incredibly porous & soft.
Softened with a combination of plant extract lecithin & olive oil, then tanned/smoked with punk wood I harvest myself from a local forest. These hides have been frame softened so that the hide comes out nice & flat. All my hides pass the needle test, meaning that they are excellent quality for bead working, let alone for garments.
