This is a very good guide for anybody wanting to tan furs, or make durable leather or soft buckskin using natural materials and ingredients. Following Jaydon Cameron's advice, I've tanned possum furs, and made leather from goat and deer skins and one very thick cow hide (from which I crafted the best knife sheath I've ever made). Jaydon comes across as a man of integrity... a straight-up guy who wants to pass on what he knows, and his book reflects this. When you read it you will know that it is the real thing... straight from an experienced man of the land who knows what he is talking about and not something re-assembled or edited by AI or a slick publishing operation. With so many people living in 'artificial' surroundings and depending on technology and organisations to provide their needs, our ancestral traditions are likely to be unknown to many. It is so important to preserve our traditional knowledge and to help our children experience real life. These are things that we can store within us to help connect us to who we really are, and they may lead to a rewarding activity or even enable someone to survive. You don't need to spend a lot of money to make a good job of tanning a hide. The relatively small amount required to purchase this E book could potentially save you a lot of time, frustration and expense. I recommend this book to anybody who wants to know how to tan hides in a traditional, safe and satisfying way.

Couldn’t be happier with the buckskin from Jaydon. He has been so helpful, amazing communication, fast postage, & packaged perfectly. As for the hide itself - really well done hide, my needle goes through like butter, nice rich colour to it & just in a really great way all round. High quality work & am always happy to recommend Jaydon. Also cut some water drum skins from it and the feedback was that the quality those came out was perfect too.

My family and I are thrilled to own a bark-tanned possum cloak from Traditional Tanning NZ. This first one, in fact! It's just a beautiful and soft piece! The fur is so cozy and the skin is so supple. It smells wonderfully of the forest. We feel it's a beautiful tradition, and an heirloom piece, which honors the possums who gave their life to keep us warm. We live off-grid, so this is both a beautiful and practical piece for us. We hope to learn from Traditional Tanning NZ's future workshops on how to tan hides at home as well.
